News
“Five Nights at Freddy’s” claimed the top box office spot with an $80 million dollar opening weekend.
I was lukewarm on “Five Nights at Freddy’s,” but based on its massive opening on Halloween weekend, it found an audience.
The actors' strike heads into day 113.
The actors' union SAG-AFTRA and the studios resumed talks Tuesday, but as of Friday morning, a deal has yet to be struck. The most recent sticking point is related to AI.
Another good source of coverage on the actors' strike, is the Strikegeist newsletter from The Ankler.
Marvel discussed backup plans for the MCU's next Big Bad.
As actor Jonathan Majors readies to stand trial later this month for assault and harassment charges, Variety published a story this week about a Marvel creatives retreat that took place in September. Variety reports that they discussed pivoting away from Majors's Kang character and introducing Doctor Doom as the next major foil in the MCU. The story also includes behind the scenes details about the "Blade" reboot and "The Marvels."
Interviews
IndieWire interviewed "Five Nights at Freddy's" director Emma Tammi ahead of the breakout box office weekend.
Movies & TV - Upcoming and recent releases:
"Invincible" (TV Series) returns today for season 2 on Amazon Prime Video. The animated superhero show, based on the comic book series of the same name, stars Steven Yeun, Sandra Oh, J.K. Simmons.
"Lawmen: Bass Reeves" (TV Mini Series) debuts on Sunday, November 5th, on Paramount+. It stars David Oyelowo as famed lawman Bass Reeves, one of the first Black U.S. Deputy Marshals west of the Mississippi. The series was produced by "Yellowstone" creator Taylor Sheridan and Oyelowo, among others.
Trailers
What I've been watching:
"Gargoyles" (TV Series 1994–1997) - I've been making my way through this animated series on Disney+ and I love it so far. I vaguely remember watching reruns of this as a kid, but rewatching this now, I fully appreciate the great characters and excellent voice work. It stars Keith David and Salli Richardson-Whitfield, with recurring roles from John Rhys-Davies and Clancy Brown (Mr. Krabs from "SpongeBob SquarePants").
"Halloween Ends" (Movie 2022) - I watched this on the evening of Halloween and I enjoyed it. I preferred this one to "Halloween" (2018), which kicked off the most recent trilogy of films in the "Halloween" franchise which began in 1978. Film critic Dan Murell has a great video review on the film.
Thanks for reading! That's all for now :)
